Well..I've made it to summer yet again, and I'm still working as a welder. Got a 4.0 last semester, and I'm totally ready to enjoy the summer off from school.
It sucks at work, being so freaking hot, and the mandatory Saturdays that we've worked for the last month.
The big boss came into my booth a few days ago, and informed me that there is going to be an adjustment to my paycheck. "Up", was all he said. It got me wondering if this is from the annual review that they do, or if they are finally bringing me up to what the new hires get. Because, after he was in my booth, he went into the guys next to me too. I just hope that I get more than $0.25. I don't care if that sounds greedy, I work hard, and I deserve it.
My husband just got a so called promotion at work, and the "poor pitiful me" boss, gave him $0.25 raise. But, if after 6 months on the job, he's doing well...there'll be another $0.25! Wow! Considering the person who left the job was making about $5,000 more per year than my husband, they are SAVING money.
I am very happy that we both have jobs, but if my company is so busy that they can afford to pay everyone time and a half to work every Saturday, why should I only get a $0.25 raise? At my husbands place, if they are saving $5,000 dollars by using him, couldn't they be a little more generous than $0.25 an hour more? How much longer are we employees going to be the butt of our employers? If they don't start paying more, this recession will never end.
